The Lakehead Thunderwolves got the win, but it may have been a costly one. Forward Matt Caria injured his ankle at the end of overtime, just as the contest between the Wolves (8-3-0) and Guelph Gryphons (2-4-4) was headed for a shootout.

Cody Sheedy had a rough time hanging onto the ball on Thursday night, but kept possession of it when it counted most.

Dillon Mershon scored the lone goal of the shootout, vaulting the Duluth Clydesdales to a 4-3 win Wednesday over the Thunder Bay North Stars. The loss marked the end of the Stars extended nine-game home stand.

It’s off to the senior girls basketball final for the St. Ignatius Falcons. The Falcons on Tuesday won the Page Playoff 1-2 quarterfinal, the 32-26 squeaker over Sir Winston Churchill earning them a direct bye into the championship game.

Matt Caria looks like a man on a mission this season. Ten games into the current hockey campaign and the Sault Ste. Marie native tops the nation in scoring with 19 points, four more than his nearest rival.

Thunder Bay North Star forward Quinn Rempel is the Pizza Hut player of the week. In three games this past week the 19-year-old native of Salmon Arm, B.C.

Lakehead's wresting team came out of the McMaster Invitational in the top 10 teams at the tournament, edging out Guelph and Western to finish seventh.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves hung with the MacMaster Marauders through four sets, but couldn't pull out the win in the fifth and deciding match. The volleyball squad fell 15-6 Sunday in the final set, falling to 0-6 on the season.

The top team in the Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League standings has returned from a two-game weekend set in Schreiber with a couple more victories to their credit posting impressive wins over the Falcons.

It was close, but no cigar for the LU basketball women on Saturday night. Owners of a six-point halftime lead and a 12-point third-quarter advantage, the Wolves couldn’t hold it against the Minot State Beavers, falling 76-74 in overtime.
